Annabell Ison: Death Valley Footsteps

I wanted to get some images of the Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley while I was there last Autumn, they look stunning in the last light of the day. After a very hot day, I joined the ranks of photographers already perched in a line on the dunes, a little late to the party, unsure of how I’d get a unique perspective with so little time! Instead of looking at the Dunes against the horizon with everyone else, I happened to look down from where I was standing, and realised where the best image from that position lay. I’d looked down at almost the perfect moment for the shadows to cleanly hit the edge of the footsteps in the sand, watching the opposing swirls stretch out in front of me, punctuated at the top by the full stop of the green bush. I think this is the one image I have taken since I picked up a camera 18 months ago that I wouldn’t change a thing about.
