Sarah Hare: Buttermere, Lake District

A very windy dawn initially looked as if there was to be no light at all. Just as I lost faith my husband encouraged me to wait a bit longer. Suddenly a gap appeared in the clouds and this transient ray of light beamed down, racing across the lake, and vanished seconds later. This picture illustrates for me the patience a landscape photographer needs and the rewards it can bring when you capture a moment that will never exist again.
